সপ্তর্ষির বিপরীতে যে কালপুরুষ ডানা মেলে উড়েছিল
আজ সে পথ চেনাবে ----
চেনাবে নতুন দিগন্ত
তুষার শুভ্র মরুভূমি,
হাড় হিম শীতল বাতাস,
আর তারই নিচে অদম্য জীবন সংগ্রাম
পৃথিবীর সবথেকে সজীব প্রাণভূমির I
বলবে রুকারি থেকে ডিম চুরির অমর কাহিনী,
শোনাবে একদল বীরের কথা,
উন্মুক্ত কন্ঠে ঘোষণা করবে জীবনের জয়গান,
হার না মানা মানুষদের কথা I
মনের জানালা দিয়ে উঁকি মেরে দেখো -----
কোনো হাড় হিম দীর্ঘ সন্ধ্যেতে
তুমিও হয়ত হেঁটেছিলে ঐ তুষারদেশে -----
ক্ষতবিক্ষত হাতে আগলে ধরেছিলে প্রিয়তম সাথীর
অসার দেহ, মরুঝরের তান্ডব থেকে,
সপ্তর্ষির বিপরীতে I
বন্ধু আজ আবার এসো ----
জীবনের জয়গান গাও, মানুষের জয়গান গাও I
কালপুরুষ আজ আবার পথ চেনাবে তোমাকে ----
শুধু তোমাকে I
কারণ তুমিও বীর,
তুমিও পারো বরফের ভেলায় ভেসে
দীর্ঘ শীত কাটাতে ----
তুমিও পারো অভুক্ত শরীরে
সহযাত্রীকে খাবার ভাগ করে দিতে I
কালপুরুষ তোমাকে পথ চেনাবে ----
কারণ তুমিও পারো জীবনের জয়গান গাইতে ----

Note:
সপ্তর্ষির বিপরীতে means opposite to arctic. Ancient Greek people used to believe that there was a continent at southern part of the earth which balances the northern continents. They had named that imaginary continent as Antartikos, which means Opposite to Bear (“Ant” means “opposite” and “Arktik” means “Bear”). Bear is the cluster of stars visible from northern part of the earth, which is known as “Saptarshimondal” (সপ্তর্ষিমন্ডল) in Bengali.
Later on, during 16th century AD, that continent of south was discovered. Name of that continent is Antarctica. It is cold, dangerous, beautiful and unapproachable by normal means. Some adventure lovers and scientists had explored the mystery of that iceland with lots of pain and sacrifices. This poem is dedicated to those adventurous heroes (like Scott, Wilson, Shackleton, Amundsen, Ross, etc.) who contributed their life to discover the mystery and science of that wonderland, called Antarctica.
