Teachers Day, 5th September

5th September. Today is my wife’s birth day. I told her “a teacher by birth!” She never replies, but smiles. This day is very special to me. In my life, I have seen numerous great teachers, starting from my childhood home tutor, Mr. Binoy Krishna Mistry to my professional guru, Dr. S.K. De. All of them contributed lot in my formation. From my teachers I have learned a lot about life, about human relation, about humanism. I do not know, whether I am able to explore all these knowledge in my real life, but they have given their all to make me a good human being. Of course, I can never forget all my school teachers. When ever I think of my school, the faces of my teachers come in my mind. Today I have relation only with Amal Sil sir. But still I have plenty of respect for all my school teachers. How can I forget our beloved painting teacher, Mr. Panchanan Chakraborty. To me he is the best painter in the world. I can still remember that, our beloved geography teacher (Amal Biswas sir) used to play football with us at school play ground. He was a regular face at our football ground. I always remember our english teacher, Anser Ahmed sir’s smiling face. He used to eat lot of banana! He was so soft and polite. Yesterday, I had called one of my favourite teacher’s home, Prof. Basudeb Ghoshal. Her wife, our beloved “didi” (Mrs. Shipra Ghoshal) talked to me yesterday. She is another person whom I really admire lot as a teacher. She not only taught us Physics, but to me she was more a social-teacher. But when the subject physics comes, I can say that, Amal Sil sir was my mentor. Still today, I can remember my childhood days when I spent hours in Sil sir’s home. He had a tape recorder, and I used to listen melancholy songs in that. Sometimes, my school day friend, Kunal used to accompany me. We used to recite poems, discuss social issues in Sil sir’s house. My English private tutor, Nirmal sir is no more in this earth, I have heard that, his last days was very painful. Anyway, I pay my tribute to him. Our college teachers did not have much personal relation with us. But still I can say that, to make me a mechanical engineer, they have contributed lot. I still remember their class room lectures. In professional life also, I have got some great mentor, like Dr. De, Mr. S. K. Tayal, Mr. Chandrasekhar, Mr. Asim Sarkar. They are not traditional teachers, but I really learned lot from them.
Teachers make society, teachers produce future. We love to remember our teachers. We love to think about our teachers, their classes, their madness, their body language, their caricature, their anger, their smiles, their passion. Teachers are the most respected professional on earth. May be they are not professional, may be they the mirror of future society. Whatever way you define a teacher, I know, end of the day, we all love our teachers.
